The Cabin In The Woods
Hacking apart horror movie clichés is a scream
2012 is officially the Year Of Joss. Mere weeks before the Buffy creator blew our minds with Avengers Assemble, he ripped gleefully into slasher movies with this post-modern send-up that’s as dark and gory as the films it satirises.
The twisty plot sees Chris Hemsworth and pals heading out to the woods for a weekend of fun. Soon, though, their idyllic getaway turns into a living nightmare.
Co-scripted by Whedon and former Buffy partner Drew Goddard (here making his directorial debut), Cabin’s full of self-referential humour and boasts one of the coolest horror movie climaxes ever.
