Hugo
Scorsese's loving homage to the power of cinema

Trust Martin Scorsese to use his first kid-friendly movie as an excuse to celebrate cinematic luminaries like Georges Méliès.
In place of people getting beaten to a bloody mush (see GoodFellas, Casino etc), Scorsese’s adaptation of Brian Selznick’s novel is poignant and exhilarating – not least in a scene that brings the Lumière brothers’ famous Arrival Of A Train At La Ciotat to 3D life.
Both a technical marvel and a film swelling with heart, Hugo is a must for anybody who loves cinema.
